Beginner Belay Course

This class is designed for people new to climbing or just looking for a refresher course.  We teach you all the basic rope skills and safety techniques needed to climb and belay in the gym.  In order to belay without staff supervision, climbers must pass the “top-rope belay test.”  Mon, Wed, Fri 5 - 6:00pm; Sat, Sun 2 - 3:00pm

Free for members, $35.00 for non-members.

Lead Climbing Course

This course is meant to introduce experienced climbers to the world of lead climbing.  The curriculum includes: rope management on lead, proper clipping techniques, belaying a leader, and the safety considerations for lead climbers and belayers in the gym.  The course is designed to enable students to complete the “lead climbing certification test.”  Students are required to have previous experience climbing and be able to comfortably climb 5.9+.  This 3 hr. course meets on Thursdays from  5:00-6:30 over two weeks.  Maximum of 4 people per class.

$60 for members, $80 for non-members.

Technique Level 1 & 2

Technique Level 1

This course is an introduction to the different techniques involved with climbing movement.  Designed for those looking to improve their overall climbing ability, the curriculum covered includes gripping techniques, body positioning, and basic movement techniques.  This course is taught on the ground (bouldering) in order to let students practice as many different types of techniques as possible during the 1 hr.  Max of 6 people per class.  $20 for members, $25 for non-members.  Offered every Tues.  4:00pm-5:00pm

Technique Level 2

This course builds on the curriculum taught in the level 1 course.  While the level 1 course focuses on introducing people to the basics of climbing technique and movement, the level 2 course is meant to teach students how to identify and read entire sequences .  Topics such as route-reading, red-pointing, and on-sighting routes are all addressed.  This class is taught using the roped areas of the gym to allow students to get a feel for combining sequences on routes.  In addition, this course introduces students to the different ways of improving strength and stamina.   Max 4 people per class.  $20 for members, $25 for non-members.  Offered every Tues. 5:30-6:30
